The Nintendo Switch 2 has received its premiere firmware update, update 21.0.0, and although it lacks anything entirely transformative, there are numerous user experience improvements to be enthused over.

New Game Card Icons Introduce Visual Clarity

Among the prominent features features new icons that show above a game card, distinguishing whether that game is an original Nintendo Switch version, new Switch, or online edition.

This enhancement has been favorably regarded by users, with several applauding it as a "nice touch" that assists make the UI appear more dynamic.

Upgraded Player Finding and GameChat Functions

While searching for gamers to send a friend request, the Locate Gamers You've Met option under Add Friend now covers individuals you've interacted with in your buddies' voice channels.

Regarding GameChat, several improvements are added:

  • The title won't put itself to sleep when using chat.
  • A feature to turn off “Chat Audio Panning” is introduced.
  • Communication will persist if the console transitions from TV mode to on-the-go or flat mode, even when this change results in the internet transitioning from a cable setup to a Wi-Fi one.

Streamlined Downloads and Gamepad Sound Options

Regarding premium controller players, a new fast-response audio mode is added, enabling you to choose between “Stable” or “Low Latency” modes.

Faster Audio will reduce sound delay when compared to “Stable” but could be more subject to interference in some wireless environments.

Downloadable Software Data Download Improvement

Another significant update allows you to install information for a downloadable software if the “Use Online License” option is disabled.

This setting is accessible in the Menu of a downloadable software when selected via Downloadable Content from the console interface.

  • Locale support: Thailand's language and Poland's language were added to the list of available languages, although they will only be accessible in software that support the corresponding tongue.
